Snap Inc.

As National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) approaches, Snap Inc. is reaffirming its commitment to fostering civic engagement among young voters. The company behind Snapchat, a platform that reaches millions of young Americans daily, sees NVRD as a crucial opportunity to make civic participation an integral part of the Snapchat generation’s coming-of-age experience.

Snap is a long-time corporate partner of National Voter Registration Day and has served on the Steering Committee since 2018, consistently demonstrating their ability to empower new voters and that all of us, including corporations, have a role to play in celebrating and strengthening our democracy.

For Snap, NVRD is a chance to leverage their native-to-mobile platform to seamlessly integrate voter registration into the daily lives of their users. By making the process accessible and user-friendly, Snap aims to remove barriers and encourage widespread participation in the democratic process.

This year, Snap is taking their commitment to the next level by launching innovative in-app civic tools. These features will allow Snapchatters to check their registration status, register to vote, sign up for election reminders, and even make a plan to vote for Election Day—all without leaving the app they likely use every day. It’s a powerful example of how technology can be harnessed to strengthen democracy.

Snap’s approach to civic engagement is rooted in their understanding of their user base. They recognize that for many young people, Snapchat is more than just a social media platform – it’s an important means of self-expression. By integrating voter registration and engagement tools into the app, Snap is sending a clear message: your unique voice matters, and civic participation is a fundamental way to make yourself heard in our democracy.

Leading up to September 17, Snap is pulling out all the stops. They’re leveraging organic growth activations, marketing initiatives, and partnerships with Snap Stars and publishers to push their registration tools. Snap’s efforts extend beyond just registration to voter education, too. They’re also refreshing their “Voting 101” page, providing comprehensive voting information to ensure users are well-informed. They’re also encouraging their content creators to spread the word about voting, creating a ripple effect of civic awareness throughout their network.

By coupling voter education with their engagement efforts, Snap aims to help voters get the information they need to follow through on the civic process that begins with voter registration. They also monitor their impact by looking at viewers, registrations, absentee ballot requests, and engagement with ballot information. This holistic approach ensures they’re keeping their goal of real engagement with the voting process, not just surface-level interactions, at the forefront of their NVRD efforts.

As we approach National Voter Registration Day, Snap’s efforts serve as a powerful reminder of the role tech companies can play in strengthening our democracy. By meeting young voters where they are—on their phones and in their favorite apps—Snap is helping to create a new generation of engaged citizens.

This National Voter Registration Day, when Snapchatters open their app, they’ll find more than just filters and friend updates—they’ll find the tools and information they need to make their voices heard in our democracy.
