Surprise Celebrity Guests Join National Voter Registration Day Rally

Washington, DC, September 12– Yesterday , celebrities Alysia Reiner, Linda Powell, and Zoe Lister-Jones joined efforts to share tips and strategies for making their National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) events a success on September 17. The civic holiday has coordinated a number of events nationwide to educate on voter registration requirements and provide opportunities for voters to register ahead of the upcoming election – and today marks the beginning of an impactful movement to draw attention to next week.

Alysia, Linda, and Zoe thanked guests for lending their time and energy to NVRD’s voter registration efforts to help eligible voters participate in free and fair elections. Linda Powell shared her support for NVRD by noting how grateful she is for the desire to work for our democracy. She stated,“It’s sobering to think about the 600,000 nonvoters who said they didn’t vote in the last election because they weren’t registered. Your work will impact outcomes across the country, and I’m so thankful we could come together today to learn how to help those around us register to vote in order to ensure democracy wins.”

Alysia Reiner thanked attendees for their efforts, saying, “This is what democracy looks like and it is so beautiful to me. Thank you for giving your time and your energy to protecting our democracy.” Zoe Lister-Jones added, “We are at such a critical juncture in our country’s history and our country’s future. Everyone here today can make such a massive impact on free and fair elections – and getting people, who have the will to vote and make their voices heard, to the polls.”

The National Voter Registration Day effort, spearheaded by Nonprofit VOTE, aims to mobilize voters nationwide. Thanks to their continued support, the civic holiday has worked to register over 5 million eligible voters since its kickoff in 2012 in time for their next trip to the ballot box because of National Voter Registration Day and the associated events.

“Thanks to a recent Harvard study, we know that celebrity voices are incredibly powerful in promoting civic engagement,” says National Voter Registration Day Campaign Director Chyann Sapp. “We’re thankful for the support of artists like Alysia Reiner, Linda Powell, and Zoe Lister-Jones for throwing their voices behind such an important cause and showing up to inspire the local partners who drive the bulk of this work.”

During presidential elections, voter registration and turnout are at their highest. Ahead of the 2024 presidential election, Nonprofit VOTE has assembled a record number of local and national partners – over 5,000 community partners and 150 national partners – to ensure that every eligible voter can participate on election day.
