National Voter Registration Day Teams Up with the Purple Tour to Lift Up the NYC Event and Upcoming Tour Stops

September 16, 2024 – New York, NY – This National Voter Registration Day, the biggest celebration of civic engagement and democracy, meets the ultimate movement revolution with Party to the Polls: The Purple Tour. Together, we’re turning voting into a joyful celebration of unity, community, and the power of collective action.

The Purple Tour brings 50 dance parties to polling places across 15 states. And the best part? They’re kicking off the whole movement this year with a vibrant, one-of-a-kind dance event at Sony Hall in New York City on National Voter Registration Day, Tuesday, September 17, turning this iconic venue into a purple hub for Red, Blue, and everything in between. The event is free and open to the public.

In a time of political division, the Purple Tour is uniting people through the universal language of dance, creating a fun, joyful atmosphere where everyone can come together regardless of their political affiliations. With over 800,000 members in the Daybreaker community, the Purple Tour aims to make voter participation an exciting and inclusive experience, ensuring every voice is heard. The NYC event will encourage attendees to dress in purple and celebrate the joy of voting, with opportunities to register to vote, check voter status, and get information on polling locations.

“We asked ourselves how we could make civic engagement feel like a celebration, not a chore,” says Chyann Sapp, Campaign Director of National Voter Registration Day, “That’s what we seek to do with National Voter Registration Day and why we’re glad to partner with Party to the Polls and encourage our network of New York City partners to celebrate their right to vote — and to show that democracy can be both fun and meaningful.”

The National Voter Registration Day network continues to grow nationally and locally. In addition to the record 150 major national organizations and businesses signed on this year, 5,100 local partners – including nonprofits, libraries, colleges, and others across the nation – will be promoting voter registration in their own communities to help ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in the upcoming election. “As we gear up for the 2024 National Voter Registration Day to be held on September 17, we are coordinating with organizations across the nation and preparing robust follow-up actions to keep newly registered voters engaged and informed about upcoming elections,” adds Sapp.

Leading up to Election Day, the National Voter Registration Day team plans to continue working with and promoting Purple Tour events across the nation. More information about National Voter Registration Day and the upcoming Purple Tour stops such as Boston, Phoenix, Charlotte, Miami, and Detroit can be found online.
